Authentic Assessment Scholars & Supporters Scheme

Operation authentic assessment transformation is an IMPACT-funded scholarship scheme coordinated by TU Dublin’s authentic assessment community of practice (CoP). The scheme, currently in its first year, invites TU Dublin lecturers to undertake a funded authentic assessment* re-design for one of their existing module assessments. Participating scholars document their development process through a series of reflective blog posts and workshop presentations, and are supported by a team of experienced authentic assessment ‘supporters’. Scholars are also guided in their work by an authentic assessment redesign framework, which offers a set of guidelines and general principles for embedding authentic assessment pedagogy in practice.

In 2021, participants hailed from a range of fields and disciplines including applied social care, marketing and communications, mechanical engineering, work placement, data science, product design, and construction studies. You can read about their work on this page, and access a case study based on each assessment re-design (coming soon). You can read more about the scheme here.

* Authentic assessment denotes a diverse range of alternative approaches to assessment which focus on the application of knowledge, the performance of exemplary tasks, or the measurement of students’ abilities in scenarios that replicate ‘real-world’ challenges. You can learn more about authentic assessment from this National Forum insight.
